Editorial description(s):

About the Author
Michael McBain is a networking specialist who has been working with the Internet since its popularization in the early '90s. After publishing his first science fiction novel, THE VAST, he wrote this book based on a training course he designed to help parents and teachers protect children from questionable material.

Book Description
With the growing concern in the news today over pornography around our children, parents are going to be looking for answers they can understand, rather than a commercial software package that hides its inner workings and blocks out too much of the web. Also, with the schools utilizing the Internet more and more, the teachers and staff members will also need some instruction on this matter. I think this book will serve as an invaluable tool, educating the people rather than "doing it for them."

Reader review(s):

A must have for any concerned parent or teacher!, May 28, 2002
This book was a godsent for me. I am fairly computer illiterate, and I had no idea what my 11 and 15 year olds were doing on the Internet while I wasn't there. This book cut through all the excess drivel and showed me flat out where smut is accessed from and how to find out if it had been accessed from my home system. It was extremely easy to read, not like most technical help books. The author avoided any extraneous chit-chat or dull information; he simply took you through what you needed to be aware of, and moved on. It exposed places on the Internet I had never even thought about, not just simple web pages. I would recommend this book to ANYONE who is interested in protecting minors from pornography online.
