Editorial description(s):

Book Description
Access to information directly affects process execution effectiveness. The more accurate, timely, and comprehensive the information, the more efficient the process. Processes involving more than one company require a degree of enterprise-to-enterprise (EtoE) information exchange. Historically, this exchange was based on interpersonal interaction via post, phone, fax, e-mail, and expensive business trips. Manual information-sharing, although required in some situations, is grossly inefficient in others. Tools and applications automating the exchange of dynamic information between two or more enterprises in a controlled manner have the ability to substantially increase inter-enterprise process execution efficiency. The Internet has begun to remove the limitations of time and physical proximity from the information-sharing equation, and integration technologies are beginning to allow disparate organizations to manage real-time automated information interchange via the Internet. The combined effects of these two technology developments are allowing companies to overcome historic information-sharing limitations, generating new process integration possibilities.
