Editorial description(s):

Book Description
This study provides forecast of the basic and important data on Internet economy such as the number of Internet devices in Japan, the number of Internet users and the size of the ecommerce market based on the latest version of the Internet Commerce Market Model (ICMM Version 8.3), which IDC calculated based on its worldwide definition. Due to the rapid diffusion of mobile phones with Internet access and low-price broadband access, the number of Internet users in Japan totaled 49.36 million in 2001. The Japanese ecommerce market came close to reaching the 100 billion dollar mark in 2001 and is expected to grow steadily. "Although the Japanese was once said to be unsuitable for B2C ecommerce, the survey result shows that consumers are becoming "used to ecommerce" as the number of Internet buyers from PC and mobile phone is rapidly increasing. Small companies are slow in the B2B field, medium/large companies with complete infrastructure are rapidly increasing the supply chain trading volume," said Hisami Suzuki, Internet Research Manager, IDC Japan.
