Book Description
This IDC study assesses the current state of U.S. consumer Internet usage and retailing and forecasts future Internet adoption along various metrics using IDC's U.S. Internet Commerce Market Model (ICMM) version 2.1. A maturing U.S. Internet consumer market means more opportunities to sell increasingly sophisticated digital services and content that tie together a consumer's multiple locations, devices, and Internet profiles. The U.S. Internet consumer is rapidly moving outside of the home's den and beyond the personal computer to the living room and numerous digital consumer devices, giving technology and content vendors the chance to move beyond life management and communications functions and into entertainment and consumption ones. "For the first time, more than half of the U.S. population logged on to the Internet from home, engaging in more sophisticated and compelling activities. The trends show the Internet moving from Americans' dens to their living rooms, and broadband, wireless home networking, and digital consumer devices are leading the way," said Jonathan Gaw, research manager for IDC's Internet Economy service.
